Operation Lamb Check Presentation Remarks

Council Distributes $5,051.02 in 2003 Operation LAMB Funds

 

 

            On Sunday, March 28th at the Meadow Village Restaurant in the Meadow Community, Grand Knight Vince Parente of the Dr. John Carr Monk Council No. 7259 in Newton Grove presented five checks totaling $5,051.02 to the beneficiaries of our 2003 Operation LAMB drive. The checks were distributed as follows:

 

$1,851.02 to Johnston County Group Homes, Inc.

The donation will be used for the purchase of three Play Station games and several Play Stations programs, three DVD players and several DVDs for all three Johnston County Group Homes in Four Oaks, Smithfield and Princeton. The check was accepted by Janet Harper, Administrator of the Johnston County Group Homes, Inc.

 

 

 

 

$900.00 to Johnston County Special Olympics.

The money will be used for the purchase of items used in their athletic programs in and around Johnston County such as athletic uniforms and equipment, transportation to and from eleven county and state events, meals and lodging for the Special Athletes. The donation was accepted by Dale Bender, Director of Johnston County Special Olympics.

$850.00 to Benson Elementary School’s Exceptional Children’s Program.

Part of the donation ($514.00) will be used by the preschool program for the purchase of additional components for “The Letter People”, including trade books for each letter of the alphabet, shapes, symbols, story cards and stickers. This is a program that will allow the teacher to encourage language skills and literacy in each of her students while still addressing their individual needs. All of the preschool students are between the ages of 3 and 6 years of age. The balance of the check ($336.00) will be used by the older exceptional children program teachers for the purchase of supplies which are not covered by either state or county appropriations. Such items include: Christmas gifts, school boxes, classroom awards, books and craft supplies plus items such as Kleenex tissues, hand soap and baby wipes. The check was accepted by both Lillian Curtis, Exceptional Children’s Preschool Program Teacher and Cindy Johnson, Exceptional Children’s Program Teacher from Benson Elementary School.

 

 

 

 

 

$850.00 to Midway Elementary School’s Exceptional Children’s program.

            A portion of the money ($250.00) will be used for the class’s annual dues for the Sampson County In-school Scouting Program, which provides beneficial monthly activities in which the students can participate. $175.00 will be used to purchase communication supplies for one of the students who has a feeding tube and a tracheotomy and is unable to speak. The balance of the grant, $425.00 will be used to purchase supplies for all of the members of the class. The grant was accepted by Martha Turner, Exceptional Children’s Program Teacher from Midway Elementary School.

 

                  

 

 

 

$600 to Sampson County Special Olympics.

The money will be used for the purchase of items used in Sampson County’s Special Olympic athletic programs held in and around the county such as athletic uniforms and equipment, transportation to and from county and state events, meals and lodging for the Special Athletes.

The check distribution was held in conjunction with the Communion Luncheon that the council holds annually to honor and support the widows and children of the council’s deceased members. GK Vince Parente also made a few remarks in that regard.

 

Altogether, there were 50 people in attendance. The council paid for the lunches of the recipients of the Operation LAMB checks and the widows of brother knights who attended.
